Platelet Rich Plasma Injections

Platelets release growth factors and induce an inflammatory response to promote healing.  Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injections are widely used for many different purposes.  In sport's medicine, PRP injections greatly accelerate the healing time of joint and soft tissue injuries that are both acute and chronic.  Studies show that PRP is even more effective for treating sporting injuries than cortisone injections and with none of the side effects.  PRP can even be used for osteoarthritis. Most patients respond after 3 treatments every 2 weeks.  In some instances follow up treatments may be required.
Technique
A sample of your own blood is collected.  The blood is then separated into its different components and the PRP is extracted by a Biomedical Scientist.  Our extraction method has undergone laboratory testing to ensure high platelet yield. The PRP is then injected into the injured area under ultrasound guidance where indicated and may be done so under local anaesthetic if requested.  Overall allow up to 1 hour for the entire procedure.
Cost
Initial Injection ..................................... $220 (Medicare Rebate Available)

Contraindications
PRP is not suitable for patients with cancer or metastatic disease, active infection, low platelet count, some blood clotting disorders or anticoagulant therapy.

Remedial Massage

Massage is an important part of injury management and prevention.  Promoting blood circulation to an area aids in healing and in preventing injuries occurring or worsening.  Our sports massage therapist can focus on a particular area of concern or rid you of general muscle tightness that can cause painful injuries.  Regular massages while undergoing PRP therapy can increase the benefits of your treatment. Private Health Rebates are available on our Remedial Massages with Steve.  You can claim your rebate on the spot with our HICAPS machine.
